On the outskirts of Guatemala City, a large dump collects the trash from the city's residents. A small, very poor community has sprung up around this garbage dump. Men are allowed to enter the dump to collect recyclable items to sell. This is how they make their living and support their families. While the condiitons look bleak, this is where their children grow up and live and play.
I went with a team of students and professors from John Brown University. Our objective was to help produce promotional material for an organization devoted to bettering the lives of those who live in the dump, Chosen People of Guatemala. These images are some selected from that trip.
